Day 38: Avoiding the Pain
This morning I woke up to go to the walk in clinic to get a blood test. I made sure that I didn’t eat 12 hours beforehand. You see, I’ve never had a blood test. Last May, I got a new family doctor and went in for a check up and was provided with the blood test referral sheet to go get one. It’s been nine months and I still hadn’t done it - but today was the day. I was mentally ready to go (I even washed my hair that morning).
Sitting at the blood lab, I started to get very nervous. I had about 23 minutes before it was my turn and I just sat there waiting. I have no idea why I’m so afraid to get my blood drawn. I guess it’s the fear of the unknown.
There was one person left before me and he was called. A young kid, not even ten. The lady called my name and I came up to the front desk and she told me that my blood referral sheet expired (it lasts only six months). And, that was it. I left.
It’s so funny how sometimes when we are finally ready to do what we have been avoiding, we can’t get it done. Now I’ll have to call my doctor’s office and explain why I need a new one, and then go through with this whole process again.
Do today what you needed to do yesterday.
